The Africa Conference on Volunteer Action for Peace and Development will hold at the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya on July 2-4, 2012. The Conference will bring together leading voices in the sectors of volunteerism and youth, social entrepreneurship, government and business under the theme “Youth Volunteerism for Peace and Development in Africa.”
The aim of the conference is to launch public, private, non-governmental and donor partnerships, and networks at the national and regional levels, in order to establish an East Africa Peace Service Corps as called for in the 2010 Nairobi Declaration endorsed by delegates from 40 nations. It will also result in an action plan advancing collaborative initiatives in strategic areas of health service, environment, youth skills and sustainable peace with the support of United Nations agencies, Governments, Private Sector, and Civil Society.
Some of the conference objectives includes the introduce and showcasing of models of volunteering and civic service, and strengthen networks in the region; establish commitment with the regional blocs (COMESA, EAC, African Union Commission, UN agencies, governments, the private sector, youth organizations and other civil society entities to promote innovative community driven development and youth voluntary and entrepreneurship initiatives amongst others.
