Peace Corps at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps. Since 1961, more than 200,000 Americans have served as Peace Corps volunteers in 139 countries worldwide. Their fields of service include agriculture, business development, community development, education, environment, health, and youth development.

As a part of the celebration, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival will commemorate and celebrate the service and accomplishments of Peace Corps Volunteers, with the Peace Corps as a theme of the festival.

In September, Meridian International Center will mark the anniversary by hosting a State Department delegation of 50 international visitors who have worked with Peace Corps volunteers in their countries.

We want to know about your experience with Peace Corps volunteers. Has having a member of the Peace Corps in your community inspired service? Let us know in the comments below!
